Useful Green County Legal & Family Resources
Not sure where to start? The resources below can help Green County residents locate court information, child-support services, family-court resources, human services, and other community assistance. These agencies generally cannot provide individual legal advice, but they can often provide forms, procedural information, records, program information, or referrals.
Green County Justice Center & Clerk of Circuit Court
Green County Justice Center
(608) 328-9433
2841 6th Street, Monroe, WI 53566
Clerk of Circuit Court: 608-328-9433
Use this when you need to: file court documents, obtain information about an existing Green County court case, ask about a hearing or court date, pay court-related fees, or locate the appropriate court office.
The Clerk of Circuit Court is the appropriate starting point for many procedural questions concerning an existing court case. Green County specifically directs people seeking to change or obtain information about a court date to the Clerk of Courts.
Green County Family Court Commissioner
Green County Family Court, Wisconsin
Green County Justice Center
2841 6th Street, Monroe
608-328-9429
Use this when you need information concerning: divorce, paternity, child support, custody and physical placement proceedings, temporary family-court matters, mediation, or other actions affecting the family.
Green County publishes particularly useful information concerning the divorce process, paternity, child support, custody and placement mediation, co-parenting, and related family-court procedures.
Trying to understand the terminology first? Read Guth Law's guide tolegal custody and physical placement in Wisconsin.
Green County Child Support Agency
Use this when you need help with: child-support account information, payments, enforcement services, establishing or enforcing support, or accessing Wisconsin Child Support Online Services.
Green County also provides a 24-hour automated number for collection and payment information at 800-991-5530. Wisconsin's online child-support system allows participants to review balances and recent payments and access other account information.
For general information about how support is determined or changed, see calculating and modifying child support in Wisconsin.
Green County Human Services
N3152 State Road 81
Monroe, WI 53566
608-328-9393
Use this as a starting point when you or your family needs assistance involving: children and families, economic support, behavioral health, substance-use services, disability-related services, or other county human-services programs.
Green County Human Services includes specialized programs for Children, Youth & Families, economic support, mental health and substance-use needs, and other community services. The county also publishes family and community resource guides.
Children, Youth & Families / Child Welfare
Use this when: there are concerns about child safety, child welfare, abuse or neglect, or a family is already involved with Green County child-welfare services.
If your family is already involved in a court proceeding, you may also want to understand what happens in a Wisconsin CHIPS case.
Aging & Disability Resources
Use this when you need information or assistance concerning: aging, disability, long-term care options, benefits, transportation, caregiving resources, or services that may allow an older adult or person with a disability to remain as independent as possible.
The ADRC can be especially useful when a family is beginning to encounter questions about capacity, supportive services, guardianship, protective placement, or alternatives to more restrictive interventions. Green County includes ADRC services within its Human Services system and publishes an ADRC services guide.
Green County Sheriff's Office
2827 6th Street, Monroe, WI 53566
608-328-9400
Use this when you need: law-enforcement assistance, information regarding a Sheriff's Department matter, or other non-emergency law-enforcement services.
For an emergency or immediate threat to safety, call 911.
*The Sheriff's Office cannot change a court date. Questions concerning court dates should be directed to the Green County Clerk of Circuit Court at 608-328-9433.
Restraining Orders & Injunctions
I need information about getting a restraining order.
Wisconsin provides different forms of restraining orders and injunctions, including domestic abuse and harassment injunctions. The correct procedure depends upon the relationship between the parties and the conduct involved.
The Green County Clerk of Courts provides this handout detailing what is necessary to file a restraining order.
Not sure which type applies? Read the difference between a harassment injunction and a domestic-abuse injunction in Wisconsin.
If you are in immediate danger, call 911.
Finding Wisconsin Court Records
Wisconsin Circuit Court Access (CCAP)
Use this when you want to: search publicly available Wisconsin circuit-court case information, locate a case number, review the public docket, or check upcoming court activity.
CCAP is a public court-record system, not a complete explanation of what occurred in a case. A docket entry should not necessarily be interpreted without considering the underlying court record and procedural context.
Wisconsin Court Forms
Wisconsin Court System Forms
Use this when you need: official Wisconsin court forms for divorce, family law, guardianship, injunctions, small claims, probate, or other proceedings.
eCourt forms can help with procedure, but a form cannot determine whether a particular legal strategy is appropriate for your circumstances.
Have the forms but not sure what to do? It might be worth thinking about limited-scope representation.
